Cyber Incident Update

On February 25, 2025, the City of Fort St. John discovered that an unauthorized third party gained access to a portion of our network encrypting certain data. In response, we immediately engaged leading cybersecurity experts to assist with containment, remediation, and conduct a forensic investigation. While the investigation will take some time to complete, our priority remains the protection and security of information in our care and to ensure that operations are restored as quickly and securely as possible.

Following the cyber incident the City experienced earlier this week, we took swift action to protect our systems and minimize impacts. Since then, we have worked with cyber security experts and relevant authorities to investigate the incident’s extent and impacts.

This morning, the City of Fort St. John experienced a cyber incident. As soon as the incident was discovered we immediately severed our connections to limit unauthorized activity. We have activated a cyber incident response and are working to identify the extent.
Statement from Mayor Lilia Hansen regarding racism

It is with deep sadness and disappointment that I address our community today, on behalf of Fort St. John City Council, regarding the recent defacing of the Treaty 8 Tribal Association building with racist graffiti. This unacceptable act goes against the values of respect, inclusion, and unity we strive to uphold in our community.
Fire Department responds to structure fire on 100 Avenue

At approximately 6:00 pm on February 6, the Fort St. John Fire Department responded to reports of black smoke coming from a second-floor window at a residence located above a commercial building at 8111 100 Avenue.
