Community Forest remains closed until further notice

Stay out of the Fish Creek Community Forest!

The Fish Creek wildfire is still active, even though the fire behaviour is currently minimal with no visible smoke. On May 4, BC Wildfire Service was able to change the status of the fire to “being held,” which means that the fire perimeter is not expected to grow larger. BC Wildfire Service is still actively on the ground suppressing this fire and will use infrared scanning in the next days to search for hidden hot spots.

The Community Forest Trails remain closed to the public for several reasons:

  • The forest fire is still active
  • Experts are investigating the cause of the fire
  • Danger tree assessments need to be completed by BC Wildfire Service

Once all these items are completed the Community Forest will reopen to the public.

“I’d like to thank the public in advance for respecting the temporary closure of our beloved trail system. It’s important that we let BC Wildfire complete their work and we ensure that fire damages are assessed before we use the trails again,” said Mayor Hansen.

Caution tape and signs will remain up at trail entrances to the forest until it is safe for the public to use the trails again. Security staff will also be patrolling the area to ensure people are respecting the closure.
