On May 2, grounds crews from the Fort St. John and Charlie Lake Fire Departments along with ground crews and helicopters from BC Wildfire Service made good progress working towards containment of the fire, however the fire will remain classified as “out of control” until all perimeters are secured.
Overnight, Fort St. John Fire Department had one crew remain on site overnight to do active patrols for fire flare ups as the winds increased.
Crews continue to work on containing the fire perimeter and hotspots today. Fire breaks east of the Community Forest are being cleared without the aid of machinery due to the challenging steep terrain.
Lower temperatures today may help reduce fire activity, but the lower humidity and higher winds still create a high risk of increased fire activity throughout the day.
The Fish Creek Community Forest and trails remain closed to the public, so do stay out of the Community Forest. Security is patrolling Fish Creek Community Forest and the trail heads to keep people out of the fire area as it is not safe, and you could hinder fire suppression efforts.
