City receives $4.2 million to reduce flood risks

Through the Provincial Government's Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, administered by the Union of BC Municipalities, we will receive $4.2 million to better prepare for disasters and reduce risks from hazards in a changing climate.

Specifically, we will use these funds to assist with the following projects:

  • Bouffioux Coulee watershed flood risk reduction report and design
  • Rainfall distribution analysis and bylaw amendment for better stormwater planning
  • Bouffioux Coulee outfall pipeline protection for local and neighbouring communities

“This funding from the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund is helping Fort St. John take critical steps to reduce flood risk and protect our community. Upgrades to the Bouffioux Coulee berm, a new sewer outfall pipeline and River Drive embankment improvements will reduce flood risks, safeguard critical infrastructure and strengthen our readiness for extreme-weather events.” - Jim Lequiere, Acting Mayor
