DIY Mini Parade Float Challenge

Do you want to get involved in displaying your creativity at the City of Fort St. John’s Canada Day Celebrations? Then participate in our DIY Mini Parade Float Challenge, where designs will be displayed in the City of Fort St. John’s Information Tent in Centennial Park during our Canada Day Celebrations. Members of the public will vote for the “Most Creative” and “Best Canadian Spirit” designs at the Information Tent during Canada Day. The designs with the most votes will receive a prize.
Please use a box (preferably shoe box or tissue box) to create your mini parade float. You can use any crafting supplies for your design! Float designs should be based off what you want to celebrate for Canada Day! Some ideas are red and white colours, Canadian items or nature, City of Fort St. John colours or places, and Truth and Reconciliation.
All designs must be appropriate for all ages and free from political and discriminatory content. If guidelines are not followed, it can result in your design not being featured.
Please label your float clearly with your name so we know which float belongs to who and fill out a registration sheet before or during submission in case you become a winner and/or would like to pick up your design after Canada Day. While we will do our best to protect your float, we cannot guarantee that it will be returned in its original condition due to weather and setup.
Submit your mini parade float and registration sheet by June 29, 2025, in person at the Visitor Centre inside of the Pomeroy Sport Centre located at 9324 96 Street. The Visitor Centre hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM and Saturday to Sunday from 9:00 AM to 5:00PM.
For questions, contact us at visitorinfo@fortstjohn.ca or 250-785-3033. We are looking forward to showcasing your creativity for our nation and community this Canada Day!
Here are some Canada specific examples. Feel free to also search for “shoebox parade float ideas” to gain inspiration, but please ensure designs remain within the guidelines themes and sizes.
