The City of Fort St. John has a requirement to periodically remove snow from the downtown core and various streets after significant snowfall. The City is now accepting applications from contractors who are interested and able to commit to supply operated equipment when called upon by the Public Works Division for snow haul off purposes for the 2026/2027 season. Deadline for submission is no later than 4 pm local time, Wednesday, October 14, 2026.
Compensation to contractors for tractors and trailers, plus other equipment, such as graders, loaders (3 yard minimum to 6-yard maximum bucket), skid-steers, and 6-way snowblades is based on the hourly rates posted on the City of Fort St. John’s website. This rate is all inclusive (covering fringe benefits, overhead, profit, wear items, mobilization, fuel and operator costs).
- Contractors must have valid WorkSafe BC coverage.
- Contractors must maintain all certification while working for the City of Fort St. John.
- Contractors will be contacted on an as needed or required basis. All reasonable efforts will be madeto give sufficient notice for availability; however, short notice will be considered the norm.
- Contractors will be required to attend a City of Fort St. John Contractor Orientation Meeting prior to commencing work, and as required.
- This is not a contract and there is no guarantee of minimum hours per call or frequency of haul offs.
Required Documentation:
- Copy(s) of Certificate(s) of Insurance for each vehicle considered
- Automotive Liability Insurance up to $3,000,000
- Comprehensive General Bodily Injury Insurance up to $5,000,000
- Unit number, capacity, and vehicle type
- City of Fort St. John current business license
- WorkSafe BC Clearance letter
- Copy of your Health & Safety Program or Relevant Safe Work procedure
- Safety Clearance Letter & 5-year Inspection Summary Report
- Evidence that operators are trained and competent
Contractors without the proper documentation may not be eligible for winter snow haul off operations.
