The City of Fort St. John, in collaboration with 2025 Artist in Residence Francine Freeman, is proud to announce the launch of a new Mural Mentorship Program designed to strengthen and grow the local arts community.
In partnership with Moose Media and the Fort St. John Arts Council, three talented local artists, Barb D., Simone O., and Sophie S., have been selected to participate in this immersive, hands-on initiative. The program offers a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in large-scale public art, including municipal permitting, safety planning, and installation logistics.
Thanks to generous paint donations from Braun’s Flooring, the artists will bring their vision to life through a vibrant 60-foot mural in the heart of downtown Fort St. John.
“This partnership is a shining example of community collaboration,” said Stephanie Peters, Manager of Economic Development for the City. “We’re grateful for the support of our partners and proud to foster a creative environment that makes Fort St. John a vibrant place to live, work, and play.”
The program also includes drop-in sessions for youth aged 10 to 18, offering a chance to meet the artists, learn about mural-making, and contribute to the final artwork. Interested participants can email arts-culture@fortstjohn.ca to reserve a spot. Space is limited and times will vary, so early registration is encouraged.
