City and Fort St. John Co-op Announce Co-op Community Centre Naming Partnership

The City of Fort St. John and Fort St. John Co-op are pleased to announce a new naming rights partnership that will see the Pomeroy Sport Centre become the Co-op Community Centre. The new name marks the beginning of the next chapter for one of Fort St. John's most recognized recreation and community gathering spaces.

As a local and member-owned organization, Fort St. John Co-op views the partnership as an opportunity to strengthen its longstanding commitment to the community while supporting a facility that brings together residents, families, athletes, organizations, and visitors year-round.

“Having our name connected with a place that brings people together is both an honour and a great opportunity,” said Brad Lussier, General Manager, Fort St. John Co-op. “This partnership is about more than a name on a building. It reflects our continued commitment to investing in the communities where our members, customers, employees, friends and families live, work and build lasting connections.”

The Co-op Community Centre is one of the region's premier recreation destinations, hosting sporting events, recreation programs, tournaments, community celebrations, and gatherings throughout the year. The naming rights partnership, valued at $1.5 million over the next 15 years, reflects a shared commitment to supporting recreation opportunities and maintaining vibrant community spaces for current and future generations. Naming rights partnerships form an important part of diversifying revenue sources

"The Co-op Community Centre is much more than a recreation facility. It's a place where residents come together to play, compete, celebrate, and connect," said Mayor Lilia Hansen. "We're pleased to welcome Fort St. John Co-op as our new naming partner and grateful for their investment in a facility that serves thousands of residents and visitors each year. Their commitment to community aligns strongly with the values of this space and the people who use it."

The partnership is part of the City's efforts to diversify revenue sources that support recreation services and public facilities. Naming rights agreements create opportunities for community-minded organizations to invest directly in local amenities while helping reduce pressure on taxpayers.

The City of Fort St. John and Fort St. John Co-op would also like to recognize Pomeroy Lodging for its longstanding naming partnership and its contribution to the facility's history. Fort St. John Co-op is honoured to carry that legacy forward alongside the City of Fort St. John.

Over the coming weeks, signage, digital platforms, recreation information, and other public-facing materials will begin transitioning to the Co-op Community Centre name.
