2025 Intake opens for Business Façade Improvement Program

The City of Fort St. John is now accepting applications for the 2025 intake of the Business Façade Improvement Program. Funded by the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Community Economic Development and the Northern Development Initiative Trust, this program is designed to revitalize and enhance the visual appeal of downtown businesses through exterior upgrades and signage improvements, helping to create more vibrant and inviting commercial spaces.

Eligible businesses located within designated Development Permit Areas can receive a one-time grant covering 50% of renovation costs, up to $5,000 per project or building. For businesses located on corner lots, each street-facing side is eligible for up to $5,000, for a combined maximum of $10,000.

The grant can be used toward a range of exterior enhancements, including:

  • Façade upgrades
  • Siding replacement
  • Lighting 
  • Awnings
  • Architectural features

Mayor Lilia Hansen states, “We are committed to supporting our local businesses. Over the past several years, numerous façade improvement projects have transformed our commercial spaces. With continued support from the Northern Development Initiative Trust, we’re proud to help shape a more beautiful and welcoming community.”
