City Fire Ban Rescinded

June 30, 2023

As of noon today, Friday, June 30, the City of Fort St. John fire ban is rescinded. This only applies to properties within the city boundary. All areas outside the city remain under Category 1 open burning restrictions through the BC Wildfire Service.

Category 2 and 3 open burning restrictions implemented by the BC Wildfire Service remain in effect in the area, including inside the City of Fort St. John. Fireworks are not permitted - both by City Bylaw and BC Wildfire Regulation.

The City of Fort St. John has a Fire Prevention Bylaw that allows us the discretion to implement Category 1 fire bans within the boundaries of the city.

If you are having a backyard campfire, remember:

  • Cooking fires only
  • Keep it small
  • Check your surroundings
  • Be prepared with water and a shovel or rake handy
  • Supervise and ensure the coals are cool to the touch before leaving the fire pit unattended
