City achieves COR certification

October 6, 2022

The City of Fort St. John is celebrating the achievement of Certificate of Recognition (COR) certification. A standardized tool to assess employers’ health and safety management programs, COR certification is a significant achievement.

The certification process includes onsite interviews, document reviews and observations by a certified external auditor, and regular maintenance audits are required to maintain COR certification. By providing best practices for an efficient operation, COR enables companies to minimize risk to their operations.

“The WorkSafeBC fine in 2020 was a wakeup call that the City of Fort St. John took seriously. At that time, we committed to changes in our health and safety program and achieving this COR certification recognizes the incredible effort of our team to ensure the safety of our employees and the community. The COR audit revealed some areas where we need to continue to make improvements, and we have already started to address those areas,” stated Chief Administrative Officer Milo MacDonald.
