Team China in Fort St. John for 10-day Training Camp

August 27, 2019

Following the success of last year’s Canadian National Team Training Camp, 20 members of the Chinese National Speed Skating Team arrived in Fort St. John to begin a 10-day training camp.

The 10-day training camp takes place at the Pomeroy Sport Centre, with training daily until September 5 from 9 am until 11 am.

Amongst the athletes travelling to Fort St. John, is the Women’s Team Pursuit team, who placed fifth in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.  An experienced group of coaches including head coach Xiuli Wang, a former Canadian National Team Coach from 2002 to 2017, 4-time Olympic medalist Bob de Jong, and 1998 Olympic bronze medalist Canadian Kevin Crockett lead Team China.

“Following the Canadian National Team Camp from last year, it is exciting to have another high-calibre group of athletes come to train in Fort St. John.  Every ice surface is different, and this camp provides an opportunity to train in another environment. Having been based in Calgary for the past two years, the Chinese Team is taking the opportunity to explore the north,” stated Fort St. John Coach Jennifer Gibson.

Practices are open for viewing to the public, for more information, please contact Jennifer Gibson at jengibson15@gmail.com or 250-264-8885.
