Information for Candidates
Qualifications for Office
A person is qualified to be nominated, elected, and to hold office as a member of local government if they meet the following criteria:
- Canadian citizen;
- 18 years of age or older on general voting day ;
- Resident of British Columbia for at least 6 months immediately before the day nomination papers are filed; and
- Not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from being nominated for, being elected to or holding the office, or been otherwise disqualified by law.
Candidates 101 Workshop
If you are considering running for Council, plan to attend the Candidates 101 Workshop on Monday, August 15 from 7 until 9 pm at City Hall (10631 - 100 Street, Fort St. John).

Nomination Package
Click here to download the Nomination Package [PDF - 943 KB]. This package contains the required forms to be completed and returned to the Chief Election Officer (or designate) at City Hall between 9 am Tuesday, August 30, 2022, and 4 pm Friday, September 9, 2022.
Candidate Expense Limits
Managed by Elections BC, the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act regulates how financial disclosures and other related actions are made. This legislation applies to candidates, elector organizations and those wishing to participate in the election process through advocacy.
For the 2022 General Local Elections, the campaign limits for Fort St. John are as follows:
