Each household in Fort St. John is supplied with a grey garbage cart and a blue recycle cart. The contractor empties the carts using collection vehicles equipped with an articulating arm. One week garbage is picked up and the next week recycling is picked up.
What do I do on collection day?
PARK IT: Set out your container by 8:00 am on your driveway or lawn for pick up. Do not park it on the sidewalk
POINT IT: Place your bin so the arrow on the lid points to the street.
SPACE IT: Make sure there is at least 2 meters (6 feet) of space on all sides of your bin (ie don't park it right beside your neighbours bin or parked car)
REMOVE IT: Containers must be removed no later than 7:00 pm on the day of collection
DO NOT: Overfill your bin. Bins with the lid not completely down can not be picked up by the mechanical arm on the truck.
What do I do with my recycling?
Recycling pick-up alternates weekly with garbage pick-up.
- Refer to the sticker on the blue bin for what can go in the blue bin or search for items in the Waste Wizard.
- Do not bag your recycling.
- Rinse and flatten items before throwing them in.
- Drop off items that can't go in the blue bin at other local recycling facilities. The Waste Wizard will tell you where to take them.
