Councillor Grimsrud resigns from Fort St. John City Council

January 13, 2021

Today, the City of Fort St. John received the resignation of Councillor Becky Grimsrud as she has accepted employment within the City of Fort St. John.

“I am thankful for the opportunity to represent the citizens of this community for the past two years. Our employees form an integral part of keeping this city running smoothly, and I look forward to contributing to the operational side of things. Council has my full confidence to lead us forward through these challenging times,” said Becky Grimsrud.

“Getting to know Becky over the last couple years has been a privilege and an honour. She has worked very hard for the community and the region. It is bittersweet, but we know that the decisions that she makes are very thoughtful, and so it’s the right one for her and her family. We wish Becky all the best in her future endeavours,” said Mayor Lori Ackerman. “At the next regular meeting, Council will begin the process of appointing a chief election officer for a by-election and setting a date.  Those who are interested in running for council are encouraged to step up and offer your service to your community.  As in the past, I am always open to providing the details of the role and responsibilities as a member of Council.”

“As the result of a competitive recruitment process, we are excited to have Becky join the operations side of local government, and we thank her for her service to the community over the past several years,” stated Chief Administrative Officer Milo MacDonald.

Following the Local Government Act, by-election planning is underway and will tentatively occur in spring 2021. Additional information and key dates will be provided when they are available at www.fortstjohn.ca/EN/main/local-gov/elections.html.
