City and IAFF agreement ratified

January 4, 2021

The City of Fort St. John and the Fort St. John Fire Fighters Association International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Local 2143 have ratified a new 2-year agreement.

The IAFF and the City’s current collective agreement expired on December 31, 2019, and the two negotiation committees met last month for negotiations.

This agreement ensures pay rate parity with the Delta Fire Fighters’ Union, Local 1763 of the IAFF, and provides a 2.5% increase for the 2020 and 2021 years.

“Council is happy to reach an agreement with our local fire fighters that provides the City with certainty for two years while recognizing the tremendous work our local fire fighters do to ensure the safety of our community. Anyone wishing to join our Fire Department should connect with our Human Resources Department,” said Mayor Lori Ackerman.

“This agreement ensures the continued safety of our community and provides both parties with a mutually-beneficial agreement,” said Milo MacDonald, Chief Administrative Officer.

“The IAFF are valued members of our community, and this is a good agreement that recognizes their dedication to the City of Fort St. John,” stated Rashid Hasan, Chief Human Resources Officer.

“Members of Local 2143 are pleased with the agreement reached with the City and look forward to continuing to work in a collaborative relationship while serving and protecting the community of Fort St. John,” stated Matt Crompton, President of IAFF Local 2143.
