Applications open for City's Business Facade Improvement Program

March 16, 2021

Applications for the City of Fort St. John Business Façade Improvement Program are now open. The program, supported through the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Community Economic Recovery and the Northern Development Initiative Trust, helps local downtown businesses with exterior renovations or signage to improve commercial and building areas’ aesthetics.

The program will:

  • Boost the economic viability and vibrancy of the downtown by supporting visual improvements such as facades, signage, murals, architectural features, siding, lighting, and awnings
  • Increase the attractiveness of the community to enhance community pride and visitor experience
  • Improve community appearance to support recruitment of new businesses and residents

The City of Fort St. John will provide a one-time 50% reimbursement grant up to a maximum of $5,000 per building or project to improve the façades of commercial buildings in the Downtown Development Permit Area (highlighted portion of the map). Buildings located on a corner are eligible for up to $5,000 per side for a maximum total of $10,000. Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2021.

“Through the Mayor’s Standing Committee on Community Economic Recovery, we are committed to supporting our local businesses and our community well into the future. This program is yet another step we are taking to revitalize downtown as the economic, social and cultural heart of Fort St. John,” said Mayor Lori Ackerman.
