City facilitates Food Donation Initiative between ATCO and Salvation Army

November 19, 2019

Today, the City of Fort St. John, BC Hydro, ATCO and the Salvation Army announced an innovative Food Donation Initiative to feed the city’s most vulnerable populations with over 100 meals per day.

The City of Fort St. John belongs to the National Zero Waste Council and knows that worker accommodation camps are a source of excess food that could support social challenges in our community.

British Columbia has the Food Donor Encouragement Act, provincial legislation that protects companies and people looking to donate food. With that in mind, the City approached ATCO Two Rivers about partnering with the Salvation Army to redirect prepared and viable meals to residents of our community.

ATCO manages the Two Rivers Lodge at BC Hydro’s Site C project, as well as other projects throughout British Columbia, where it will look to implement similar partnerships.
