Santa Claus Parade Road Closures

November 28, 2018

The City of Fort St. John is pleased to once again be hosting the annual Santa Claus parade and Christmas tree light-up by Centennial Park on Saturday, December 1.

On Saturday, December 1 from approximately 4 until 7 pm, we will be blocking off 100 Street from 96 Avenue to 100 Avenue for the parade and no vehicle access will be permitted.

In order to perform this road closure, we will be placing no parking signs on the sidewalks of 100 Street 48 hours in advance of the parade, on the day of the parade, the signs will be moved onto the road, to ensure that vehicle traffic cannot parallel park. In addition to this, a series of detour signage will be placed out on 102 Street and 98 Street to deter traffic from getting close to this portion of 100 Street. If you wish to view the parade from your vehicles you are encouraged to park on 100 Street north of 100 Avenue.

The parade will be unloading in the North Peace Arena parking lot so this area and the parking in front of the Kids Arena Field House will be off limits from 4 to approximately 7:30 pm, so plan your parking and accordingly for the parade and for any hockey happening at the North Peace Arena.

Also, don’t forget to join us at the North Peace Cultural Centre for hot chocolate from 3:30 until 5 pm. Please join us in the Formal Gardens and the old Visitor Center parking lot by Centennial Park after the parade for the Christmas tree light-up, a bonfire, free hot dogs sponsored by Safeway, free hot chocolate supplied by the McCafe Trailer, and of course visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus!

When leaving the parade area, please note the congestion at 100 Street and 96 Avenue and plan an alternative route to avoid frustration.
