2020 BC Winter Games Board of Directors Appointed

Fort St. John, BC - The work has only just begun!  Assembling the team that will organize and execute the 2020 BC Winter Games in Fort St John has once again demonstrated the commitment to community Fort St John citizens display.  Fort St John City Council approved the appointment of the 2020 BC Winter Games Board of Directors today.

“Our community is set to build on the legacy of many other higher level sporting events and continue to demonstrate our ability to host competitions at this level. We have appointed a diverse group that will lead our volunteers to ensure a successful Games, while leaving a lasting legacy for our community,” said Mayor Lori Ackerman.

Appointed members of the 2020 BC Winter Games Board of Directors are:

The Board, organized into 14 planning areas, brings together committee chairs to lead as many as 2,000 volunteers responsible for planning and staging the Games, which will see as many as 1,436 athletes, 361 coaches and 246 officials in the region February 20–23, 2020.

“And, we’re off!  With only 18 months to plan and execute the games, we have assembled a passionate and committed group of volunteers who will once again demonstrate to our visitors that the city and region specialize in exceptional,” said Darren Snider, President of the 2020 BC Winter Games Board of Directors.

The BC Winter Games are British Columbia’s biennial celebration of sport and community bringing together British Columbia’s best emerging high performance athletes, trained coaches, and certified officials for four day of competition.  This experience is an important development opportunity and stepping stone towards higher level sport competitions.

“The BC Games are truly British Columbia’s games and it’s a priority to see every corner of the province involved,” said Alison Noble, incoming President and CEO of the BC Games Society.  “I am excited to have the Games return to the northeast after a 30 year absence and I know that the outstanding facilities and tremendous commitment by the community will result in a successful Games.”

Fort St John hosted the BC Winter Games in 1984 and recent economic impact studies of other winter games is estimated to be approximately $1.6 million.
