City Manager's Office

The Manager of the City of Fort St. John is Dianne Hunter.

The City Manager is appointed by and reports to City Council. The City Manager oversees the overall administration of the corporate body of the City, its officers and staff. In addition, the City Manager keeps Council up to date on corporate matters and ensures that Council policy is implemented and bylaws are enforced.

The City Manager also leads the Senior Management team who direct the various operational departments.  Further, the City Manager sets the overall strategic direction to ensure that Council's goals and objectives are achieved.

Human Resources

The Human Resources Department is responsible for providing advice and services in the areas of Compensation, Benefits and Employee and Labour Relations.  The primary role is to assist “internal customers” in identifying human resource needs and to develop creative solutions thereby allowing them to be more effective in their delivery of services to the citizens of the City of Fort St. John.

Additionally, the Human Resources Department:

  • Provides administrative services with regards to recruitment and selection of employees including job postings and interviewing, reference checking and new employee orientations
  • Provides guidance and assistance for employees and managers with interpretation regarding related personnel policies and procedures and both the BCGEU and IAFF collective agreements
  • Provides administrative services to various committees such as Employee and Family Assistance and the Occupational Health and Safety, BCGEU Labour Management, IAFF Labour Management and acts as a permanent member on each committee
  • Administers and recommends changes regarding contracts for employee programs and Group Benefits
  • Co-ordinates education and training between the departments and facilitates corporate training initiatives
  • Maintains employee personnel records
  • Is responsible for the continuous review and development of appropriate personnel policies and procedures 

Occupational Health and Safety

The City of Fort St. John is committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for its employees, contract workers and visitors with the goal of preventing injuries, illnesses, property damage and damage to the environment.  In order to satisfy this commitment, the City maintains a health and safety program consisting of policies, procedures, equipment, facilities and other resources designed to protect worker health and safety.  Education and training form the cornerstone of the City’s health and safety program, backed by regular inspection, program review and ongoing supervision and support.

Through the active participation of managers, supervisors, workers and the Joint Occupational Health and Safety (JOHS) Committee, the City promotes healthy and safe work practices and attitudes as integral parts of its operations.
