What is KidSport?

KidSport: Creating Opportunity For All

The cost of organized sports can be a barrier to participation and limit the choices for some families. KidSport is a community-based sport funding program that provides grants for children ages 6 – 18 to participate in a sport of their choice, “So All Kids Can Play!” When kids have access to physical activity, they have the opportunity to reach their highest potential which can positively impact physical health, development of social skills, self-esteem, and friendships.
Through the power of volunteers, KidSport Community Chapters deliver the programming at a local level. This includes raising funds to support kids in their own community, increasing awareness of the KidSport program, and processing of local applications and grants. There are 24 KidSport Community Chapters in BC and 160 KidSport Community Chapters across Canada.

Locally – What is North Peace KidSport?

North Peace KidSport is a non-profit organization that is part of the national and provincial network of community based volunteer groups providing assistance to children and youth to overcome financial barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport. The North Peace Chapter is one of 24 community chapters in BC. We are part of the Sport BC and National Sport Trust Fund which provides a charitable tax number for donation receipting.  The Fort St. John Sport Council oversees the KidSport Program for our Community and provides the link to all local sport organizations that participate in the program.
Young people learn more than athletic skills from sport. We believe that sport and physical activity provides a life-long opportunity for valuing leadership, self expression, goal setting, dedication, positive thinking and increased self confidence for kids.
