1. What is TXTalert?

TXTalert is a service that sends a text message to your cell phone when an emergency situation occurs in Fort St. John  and surrounding area.  TXTalert is a third-party product that is not operated or maintained by the City of Fort St. John.

2. How often will I receive text messages?

Because TXTalert is an emergency service, there will not be any regularly scheduled messages sent. You will only receive text messages when an emergency or important event happens.

3. What kind of text messages can I expect to receive?

Text messages regarding serious accidents, road closures, amber alerts, evacuations, school closings, and unexpected bus cancellations are some of the types of alerts that you can expect to be delivered to your cell phone.

4. Can I receive alerts through my email instead of text messages?

Yes. Each text message that is sent out has a corresponding email that is also sent. If you are a registered user on fsjnewswire.ca, you can log on and change your account information to have messages sent to your email, cell phone, or both.

5. What does the TXTalert subscription cost?

The TXTalert subscription does not cost you anything. Depending on your individual cell phone plan, your service provider may charge you a fee for receiving text messages if text messages are not a part of your current contract.  Check with your cell phone service provider for rates and details.

6. Where does TXT alert get its information?

TXTalert works with local authorities, media outlets, and the school district.

7. Will my information be given out to advertisers?

No, the information you provide to subscribe to TXTalert is kept private and will not be used for anything other than TXTalert.

8. Can I unsubscribe from TXTalert?

Yes, by simply completing the Unsubscribe form.

9.  Where do I register for TXTalert?

The registration form is located at the top left of this page.  Simply provide your name, email, and cell phone number where you wish to recieve the messages.
