Effective September 1, 2010, all residents must place garbage in the new refuse carts and the Tag - A - Bag Program will no longer exist.
Tag - A - Bag Program
The purpose behind Tag-a-Bag is to encourage reduction of waste and increase the amount of material that is recycled. As of September 1, 2007 each residence will be limited to three bags of garbage per week. Any additional bags put out for residential pick up must be tagged with a sticker purchased from City Hall. Bags of waste without tags attached will not be picked up in the curbside program. Residents also have the option of taking their bags to the landfill, where they will be charged the appropriate tipping fee.
Tag-A-Bag Stickers are for purchase at City Hall for the fee of $1.00 per tag. Any quantity of bagged garbage will be accepted if it is tagged appropriately.
The maximum sized bag accepted is a 67 L bag. There is no minimum size of bag accepted with a tag, however, three grocery sized bags will constitute as the three bag limit. The tag can only be used on standard sized bags of municipal solid waste (regular household garbage). The Tag-A-Bag program does not apply to large appliances, furniture, bulky yard waste, or other materials not considered household solid waste.
Blue Garbage Bags are only to be used for recycling. Waste Management, the company who picks up residential garbage, does not pick up any blue bags.
The City of Fort St. John has local recycling depots available for your convenience to drop off your recycling materials. To arrange curbside recycling contact the Ecodepot. For more information, click here.
