The City of Fort St. John currently maintains two cemeteries: The Fort St. John Cemetery, located on 100th Avenue (est. 1931) and the Woodlawn Cemetery just north of the City (est.1978). Both cemeteries feature columbariums, and reservations are available. Plots are only available in the Woodlawn cemetery.
The cemeteries are open to the public from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week. Interment is permitted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. An additional fee will be charged for burial on a Saturday, Sunday or a Statutory Holiday.
Burial arrangements may be made with a funeral home or with the City. You must obtain all the appropriate permits and pay all fees before interment may take place. To apply for a permit, you must supply the name, age, date of death, a certificate of registration of death (indicating whether the death was caused by a communicable disease), and the time and date of the funeral.
Cemetery plot purchases and reservations may be made at the number below.
We respectfully request that any articles of sentimental or monetary value that could be damaged during winter operations, be removed from the Woodlawn and the Fort St. John Cemeteries from October 1 until May 1. This is an annual part of the cemetery maintenance program and is in keeping with the Cemeteries Bylaw. The Caretakers of the Cemetery will not intentionally damage or destroy any personal items. Any remaining items that appear to have significant value will be retained for a period of time. It is important that we prepare the cemeteries for winter so that personal affects and memorial items are not damaged during snow blowing and interment operations.
